The English Debate Competition was successfully held on the 22nd of August, focusing on the engaging and contemporary topic: "The Impact of Social Media is Overstated." The event was a testament to the oratory skills and critical thinking of the participants, who represented their respective houses with great enthusiasm and preparation. Each house was represented by two participants—one advocating in favor of the motion and the other against it. The speakers in favor of the motion argued that while social media is influential, its perceived impact on society is often exaggerated. They highlighted the importance of critical engagement and the distinction between correlation and causation in assessing social media's role. On the other hand, the speakers against the motion passionately contended that social media's influence is profound and far-reaching, shaping opinions, behaviors, and even societal structures in ways that cannot be overstated. They presented evidence of social media’s role in significant global events, its impact on mental health, and its ability to rapidly disseminate information. The debate was intense, with each participant presenting well-researched arguments and rebuttals. The judges evaluated the participants based on their content, delivery, and ability to engage with opposing viewpoints. The competition concluded with a round of applause for all participants, who demonstrated exceptional debate skills. The winner of the debate was Anjali Sajesh of class 11 followed by 1st runner up Atharva Patel of class 10, 2nd runner up Vihaan Vohra of class 9.
